POCUS Cases 7 – IVC POCUS for Volume Assessment
Learning Objectives
- To understand how IVC collapsibility can determine if a patient is likely or unlikely to respond to fluids and/or vasopressors
- To review the steps of IVC assessment on POCUS
- To incorporate the effect that endotracheal intubation and deep breathing has on the collapsibility of IVC in interpreting IVC

Thanks Dr. Simard !
Yet another great POCUS lecture
Great points…. and at around 08:20 -08:25 it looks like that intrahepatic IVC is doing the talking!
Thank you for the very nice POCUS video, but shouldn’t we be looking for B-lines during our POCUS exam instead of still listening to the lungs? :)
excellent volume status pocus lecture. does the patient have to lie supine; does lying on their left side distort the IVC giving one a less accurate evaluation of volume status???
Is it acceptable to use this for fluid recomendation in all pts. comorbid heartfailur, infection (non septic), copd…?
