Space considerations

  • Ensure patient access from all angles (keep the circle around the stretcher clear of gear)
  • Optimize sight lines to monitors so that when standing at the foot of the bed vital signs are readily visualized
  • Consider placing lines on the floor with brightly colored tape to make clear where EM providers should stand

Organizing gear

    • Mobile, task-based carts with clearly labelled drawers for high priority emergency procedures
    • PPE should be easily accessible in a location outside the patient room
    • Non-essential gear such as orthopedic splinting material should be placed further away from the patient stretcher
